In the wake of this devastating incident, we pause to honor and remember the precious lives of the children Jayla Elkins,Shayla Elkins, Kayla Pugh,Layla Pugh,Markaydon Pugh Sariahh Snow, Khedarrion Snow and Braylon Snowwho were taken far too soon, and to extend compassion to the survivors whose lives have been forever changed.

This tribute is written with reverence for the innocence, joy, and potential of each child whose life was cut short:

Jayla Elkins, age 3

A bright and tender soul whose earliest years were filled with laughter, curiosity, and love. Though her time on earth was brief, her presence brought light to those around her in ways that will never be forgotten.

Shayla Elkins, age 5

A sweet and energetic child with a spirit full of wonder. Shayla’s smile and playful heart left lasting memories in the lives of her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Kayla Pugh, age 6

A gentle young girl whose kindness and innocence reflected the beauty of childhood. Kayla’s life, though short, was filled with love that will continue to echo in the hearts of her loved ones.

Layla Pugh, age 7

Full of imagination and dreams, Layla carried a vibrant spirit that brought joy to her family. Her memory remains a symbol of innocence and hope that should have had so many more years to flourish.

Markaydon Pugh, age 10

A young boy growing into his own personality, curious about the world and full of promise. Markaydon’s life was a future unwritten, but his presence left a lasting imprint on those around him.

Sariahh Snow, age 11

A thoughtful and bright young soul who was beginning to discover her place in the world. Sariahh is remembered for her gentle heart and the love she shared so freely.

Khedarrion Snow, age 6

A joyful child with an innocent spirit and a bright smile. Khedarrion’s laughter and energy brought happiness into every space he entered.

Braylon Snow, age 5

A little boy full of life, curiosity, and warmth. Braylon’s memory will forever remain a reminder of the fragility and beauty of childhood.

Each of these children was deeply loved—sons and daughters, siblings, cousins, and friends. Their lives were filled with the ordinary magic of childhood: laughter, play, dreams, and the unconditional love of family. That innocence is what makes this loss so profound and unbearable.

In addition to the children, two adult women—including Shaneiqua Pugh—were critically injured in this tragic event. A 13-year-old boy, who bravely escaped during the chaos, was also injured but is expected to recover. Their survival stands as a fragile thread of hope amid overwhelming grief, and they remain in the thoughts and prayers of many as they continue their healing journeys.

Authorities reported that the violence stemmed from a domestic situation that escalated into a devastating series of events across multiple homes in Shreveport’s Cedar Grove neighborhood. The perpetrator, identified by police as 31-year-old Shamar Elkins, later died following an armed confrontation with law enforcement after a pursuit into neighboring Bossier Parish.

While the circumstances surrounding the tragedy are part of the official record, this remembrance centers not on the violence itself, but on the innocent lives that were lost and the families left behind to carry immeasurable sorrow.

In moments like these, words often feel insufficient. There are no explanations that can undo the pain, no reasoning that can restore what was taken. What remains is memory—fragile, precious, and eternal.

To the families of Jayla, Shayla, Kayla, Layla, Markaydon, Sariahh, Khedarrion, and Braylon: your children’s lives mattered. Their names deserve to be spoken with love, their memories held with care, and their stories honored with dignity.

May the community of Shreveport continue to surround the grieving with compassion, support the healing of the survivors, and strive for a future where such devastating loss is never repeated.

Rest in peace to the children whose light will never fade.

Gone too soon, but forever remembered.

In Loving Memory of the Innocent Lives Lost in Shreveport On April 19, 2026, the Shreveport community was shattered by an unimaginable tragedy that left a deep wound in the hearts of families, neighbors, and all who heard the news.
